Kallima inachus (scientific name: Kallima inachus) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. Large butterfly, famous for its wing shape and markings like dead leaves when the front and hind wings are stacked. The front and rear wings are slightly semi-elliptical, with a pointed protrusion extending obliquely to the outside at the top of the wing, and a rearward pointed protrusion extending between the rear edge and the outer edge of the hind wing. The back of the wings shines dark blue, purplish blue or light blue, depending on the season. The ventral surface of the wings is in the color of dead leaves. At rest, there is a dark brown horizontal line from the top corner of the forewing to the rear corner of the hind wing, plus a few slashes, which resemble leaf veins; the color changes many, yellow-brown, brown, Both reddish brown.

Adults of this species often inhabit thickets and riverbeds in moist, lush rainforests. Also inhabits moist broad-leaved forests. The vertical perching altitude depends on the environment. Generally, it can reach a height of 1800 meters. It is a typical scavenger butterfly that feeds on rotting fruits, sap and animal dung from worm-eaten wounds on broad-leaved tree trunks.

Morphological characteristics

Large butterfly with a wingspan of 85-110 mm and a forewing length of 42-45 mm. It is famous for the overlapping of fore and hind wings, and its wing shape and markings resemble dead leaves. Both fore and hind wings are slightly semi-elliptical, with a pointed protrusion extending obliquely to the outside at the top of the wing, and a backward pointed protrusion extending between the rear edge and the outer edge of the hind wing. The changes of these two pointed protrusions are quite remarkable. The back of the wings shines dark blue, purplish blue or light blue, depending on the season. The forewing has a wide orange-yellow oblique band from the middle of the front edge to the rear corner, a black circular stripe in the center of the CuA1 chamber with a white spot in the center, and a white spot in the R4 chamber; there is a black wavy thin line on the inside of the outer edge. There are also black wavy thin lines on the inner side of the outer edge of the hind wings, and sometimes there is a circular dark pattern in the interior of R3, M1, M2, and M3. The ventral surface of the wings is in the color of dead leaves.
