Grimace hawkmoth, scientific name: Acherontia lachesis), also known as hawkmoth, is an insect of the genus Acherontia lachesis.

Named for the skull-shaped markings on the back of the adult's chest, it hosts Solanaceae, Leguminosae, Oleaceae, Viridaceae, and Lamiaceae. It tends to light at night, and rests on tree trunks with similar wing colors during the day.

Morphological characteristics

The wingspan is 100-125mm wide. The color of the wings is mainly a messy dark brown; the biggest feature is a skull-like pattern on the back of the chest. Male and female differences are not obvious.
