The big silk butterfly Parantica sita (Kollar, 1844) is an insect of the class Insecta, Lepidoptera, Dandelidae, and the genus of silk butterfly. The wingspan is 88mm in females and 83mm in males, with a brown thorax and a reddish-brown abdomen.

Morphological characteristics

Wingspan: 85 ~ 150mm. The morphotype is brown on the chest and red on the abdomen. The forewing margins and veins are brown, with white waxy translucent markings on the wing surface, large at the base and small at the end. Hindwings are brownish red, with white waxy translucent striped spots on the base half.

Head and antennae black; compound eyes dark brown, smooth; lower eyelashes white; lower lip whiskers black with white markings. The chest is black, with a white intermittent line on the back of the mid-thorax; the feet are black, the ventral surface of the leg joints are white, and the back is black. Male belly brown, ventral stripes white. The female belly is brown on the back and white on the ventral surface. Front wing black on front; outer and sub-marginal areas each have 1 row of spots, outer margin spots are small, arranged in pairs, apical corner spots disappear, sub-marginal spots are large; sub-apical area 6 spots of different sizes and shapes, anterior margin 3 1 melon seed-shaped and 1 in the middle, 2 thin strips in the middle; 3 stripes at the base, broad in the middle and Cu2, slender in the 2a; m3 and Cu2 each with 2 spots at the base. Reverse markings same as front, top reddish-brown. Hind wings reddish-brown front; sub-peripheral spots arranged in pairs, vague, only the upper 2-3 of the sub-marginal spots are clear, the rest of the spots are vague or absent; the upper half of M1, M2, M3, and Cu veins have black-brown stripes Belt; 7 stripes at the base, 2 bases merged or completely merged in the middle chamber, 2 bases merged in the Cu2 chamber; 5 patches arranged radially at the end of the middle chamber, with different sizes and shapes; male butterfly Cu2 chamber and 2a chamber Submarginal segment with massive fragrant scale spots brown or brown-black, sexual spots reaching Cu2 veins, clear margins of white stripes in compartment 3a of hind wings; 1 spot on both sides of shoulder veins. On the reverse side, the sub-periphery and the sub-margin each have one row of spots and dots; the 2A and 3A veins of the male butterfly are enlarged in the sub-margin section and covered with white scales.
