Morphological characteristics

Cannonball-shaped, 1.3 to 1.6 mm wide and 2.6 to 3.2 mm high, pale yellow to orange-yellow, with raised longitudinal ridges on the surface.

larva

1st instar larvae: yellow, slender, with larger head and smaller tail, each segment of thorax and abdomen is divided into many rings by transverse wrinkles, and the rings are densely covered with light yellow long setae.

2nd instar larvae: yellow-green, cylindrical, with a slightly smaller tail than the head, and shorter setae on the links than in the 1st instar.

3rd instar larvae: green, cylindrical, the thorax begins to enlarge, and the bristles on the body surface basically disappear.

4th instar larvae: green, with red and blue eye-like protrusions on both sides of the thorax, obvious horizontal wrinkle links, many black spots faintly visible on each link, and a white spot on each link on both sides of the ventral surface, forming two white dotted lines .

5th instar larvae: dark green, cylindrical, with a body length of 7.6 mm, the transverse wrinkle link and the black spots on it are obvious, and the white dotted lines on both sides are clear.

pupa

Yellow-green to yellow, the pupa body is nearly fusiform, the end of the head and abdomen is tapered, and the middle is enlarged; there is a bright red spot near the top of the forewing when feathering.

adult worm

The wingspan is 7.5 to 11.0 cm. Male butterfly wing surface white, front and outer edges of forewing black, black serrated diagonal stripes from 1/2 of the front edge to the outer edge near the rear corner, surrounding the top triangular red-orange spot, the spots are divided by black veins; indoor 1 row of black arrows; veins on the outer edge of hind wings with black arrows. The wings of the female butterfly are yellow-white, with black scales and powder, and there is a row of obvious black arrow patterns on the outer edge and sub-edge of the hind wings. The black area of the forewing has turned into a maroon halo and line, and the hind wing is located on the shoulder line with a main vein that resembles a plant leaf. There are spring type (wet season) and summer type (dry season). The spring type has small individuals and slightly pointed wings.

habitat

Mainly inhabits tropical rain forests, usually in forested and hilly areas, at an altitude of about 200 meters. Mostly in low-altitude plains near the valley forest edge. Likes to be active in the brooks and ditches with lush grass and shrubs, and on the hillside farmland.
