Graphium agamemnon (scientific name: Graphium agamemnon, English: Tailed jay) is a medium-sized butterfly belonging to the genus Graphium agamemnon in the family Papilionidae, mostly found in forest areas. The host is a variety of plants of the Magnoliaceae and Ansopaceae; the adults visit flowers, fly fast, and appear in spring, summer and autumn. Female butterflies are easier to observe when they feed on herbs and lay eggs; the commander-in-chief green swallowtail has a wingspan of 70-80mm, and the wings are covered with fine green markings and have wing tails. The male butterfly has a short wing tail, and the inside of the hind wing is green and rolled, and there are long white hairs inside. This species is abundant and therefore not protected. Multiple generations occur in a year, and overwinter as pupae.

Morphological characteristics

Adult: Wingspan 70 - 88 mm. The back of the body is black, with yellowish hairs on both sides. The wings are dark brown, with yellow-green markings; there are 8 spots of different sizes and shapes in the middle chamber; there are 2 small spots on the outer side of the middle chamber; there is a row of irregular-shaped spots from the sub-apical angle, obliquely passing through the middle area to the rear edge, with different sizes. Spot-by-spot increase; there is a row of small spots parallel to the outer edge in the subperipheral area, and there is a dislocation of one spot in the gluteal angle. There is a longitudinal band on the inner edge of the hind wing from the base to the rump angle; another longitudinal band from the anterior subunit area to the sub-rump angle, but the middle is cut off by veins; there are 1 row in the middle area and the subouter edge area. Small spots; the outer edge is wavy, with a caudal process, the female is long and the male is short. The spots near the front edge of the hind wings are pale or whitish. Larva: The body of the first instar larvae is dark brown, and there is a large rectangular white spot on the back of the 5th to 8th abdominal segments; by the 3rd instar, the rectangular spot turns yellow; The body color of the larvae turned green and scattered with small dark spots; the body color of the mature larvae was bright green, and the rectangular spots disappeared. The thorax has conical protrusions on the sub-back. The prothorax is dark brown in the 1st and 2nd instars, and the middle and rear thoracic processes are white; in the 3rd and 4th instars, all protuberances are blue-black with metallic luster; the protuberances of mature larvae become shorter. , but a red circle appears at the base of the posterior thoracic projection; the valve is blue-black.

Pupa: Green body, flat protruding mid-thorax and lateral ridges are brown and inlaid with dull yellow, very like a yellow leaf. Lateral ribs protrude three branches backward from the mesothorax, two of which extend to the side of the body, and reach the end of the third abdominal segment along the outer edge of the forewing; 1 A rib on the left and right of the sub-back of the abdominal segment extends to the caudal end in an arc shape.
