Pachliopta aristolochiae Fabricius (1775) is an insect of the genus Papilionidae of the Papilionidae family.

Morphological characteristics

Adult: Wingspan 70-94 mm. The back is black, and the face, thorax, and the end of the abdomen are densely covered with red hairs. The front and hind wings are black, with grayish white or tan on both sides of the veins, and some individuals are light in color in the middle, rear and subouter margins of the forewings, or dark brown or tan. There are 3-5 white spots on the outer side of the middle and outer sides of the hind wings, and those with 3 spots are arranged in small characters; the outer edge is wavy, and the wing margin has 6-7 pink or yellow spots, mostly meniscus. The reverse side of the wing is similar to the front side, the hindwing spots are more obvious than the front side, and there is a red stripe on the rump.

Eggs: spherical, dark orange-red, covered with granular secretions of female butterflies. The diameter is about 1.4-1.45 mm and the height is about 1.20-1.25 mm.

Larvae: The first instar larvae are orange-red, and then the body color is gradually darker and dark red or reddish-black. The head is round and black. There are sarcomas on the body, and the 3rd abdominal segment has a transverse leukoplakia, which makes the sub-back and lateral fleshy processes of this abdominal segment white. Valve dark brown. Pupa: The top of the head has flat protrusions extending to the sides.
