The Citrus Papilio (scientific name: Papilio xuthus) is a butterfly of the Papilio family, the genus Papilio. The color of the body and wings changes with the seasons, and the patterns on the wings are yellow-green or yellow-white. The base half of the middle chamber of the forewing has 4-5 radial stripes, which are almost connected to the end, and there are 2 transverse spots at the end; the outer edge is arranged very neatly and regularly. The markings on the base half of the hind wing are all arranged along the veins and are divided by the veins; there is a row of blue spots in the subperipheral area, sometimes not very obvious; there is a row of meniscus markings in the outer peripheral area, and there are 1 ring or semi-ring red markings. The color of the underside of the wing is slightly lighter, and the markings on the outer regions of the fore and hind wings are obvious, and the rest are similar to the front.

Adults have the habit of visiting flowers, often absorbing water in wetlands or collecting nectar between flowers. It goes through four stages in its life: egg, larva, pupa, and adult, and is a completely metamorphic insect.

Mainly distributed in Myanmar, China, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines and other Asian countries and regions, inhabiting open areas, woodlands, gardens, parks and citrus plantations.

Morphological characteristics

Wingspan 90-110 mm. Body flank with gray or yellowish white hair. The color of the body and wings changes with the seasons: the spring type is light dark brown, and the summer type is dark and black. The spring type has a wingspan of 69-75 mm and a body length of 20-24 mm; the summer type has a wingspan of 87-100 mm and a body length of 25-29 mm.
